Okay, folks, here's the deal. Obviously, the current format isn't working, both because of the format itself, and because, probably due to the game's long absense, people (and I include myself in this) don't check back on the journal as often as is necessary. While I still like the setup of this RPG, I also know a lost cause when i see it. So, we have two options:

a) I close down the game, and people who would still like to keep their characters can join another RPG with them (derelinquo is one that is just starting up, and is very dark), or whatever;

b) We move the RPG to a list, which would keep people more up to date with what's happening in multiplayer storylines, while SLs without impact on the plot can be played out over IM/e-mail and posted to the list when ready.

Leave a comment with what you'd prefer, please. If I've not heard from anyone in, say, two weeks, I'll default to option a.

ETA: Another war!RPG has been brought to my attention: mobiliavis.

It was silent in William's head, even as the chatter of the tavern rose and fell, glassware clattered, and some silly bint was laughing in the most vexing high pitched way. It was loud, but not in William's head. There was silence, tempered by determination and anticipation.

William waited, an arm casually thrown along the worn cushion of his little corner booth. Pale green eyes lingered in their lazy travels around the bar, waiting for figures to emerge from the smoky near darkness. They should arrive shortly.

Percy. Granger. Johnson.

They would arrive. Information would be shared over a pint. And then people would die and Ginny would be saved. Or people would die and Ginny would be avenged.

William took another swallow of his drink, stillness surrounding him, and waited.

11:35 pm - StoryLine

almostgod

Ginny Weasley has disappeared Wednesday, 9 April 2003. On Friday, 11 April 2003, William Weasley was told by a man only known as the Contact where and how his sister was being held. We will assume he immediately contacted people to set up a search-and-rescue party: his siblings (of which only Percy and Charles were reachable, and Charles couldn't leave his work at the Hospital), of course, as well as Hermione Granger (Aurors are good to have around on missions like this, and she's a friend of Ginny), and Angelina Johnson (friend).

The StoryLine goes as follows:

  1. William, Percy, Hermione and Angelina meet at a non-specified bar somewhere in London, then apparate to a location nearby the small cottage in Wales where Ginny is being held (and presumably tortured) by three DEs.
  2. Once there, they will go to the cottage on foot (using magic or other means to get there undetected) and attempt to free Ginny.
  3. Eventually, they will succeed, though the DEs will escape without being unmasked.

The DEs, as NPC, will be played by the mod (that's me :D), and the posting order is as follows: William, DEs, Hermione DEs, Angelina, DEs, Percy, DEs.
The DEs get more turns because I think this would be the best way to RP the battle/fighting. Obviously, if a character isn't in the scene yet (e.g. the DEs before the four arrive at the cottage, or any of the four before they arrive at the meeting place) their turn is skipped.

I hope that's clear -- if not, leave a comment on a previous mod post -- and enjoy the RPing. :)

All right, people, this is it. Ginny disappeared yesterday, so her disappearance will be noticed by now. If your character has any interest in/knowledge of this (members and friends of the Weasley family in particular), you may want to have them comment on this in their journals, or whatnot, even if they won't be involved in the actual StoryLine.

So far, only Hermione and William have expressed an interest in being part of this StoryLine. If anyone else wants to be a part, please leave a comment on my previous post. (Percy? Angelina, perhaps?)

And then, the first StoryLine call. The SL will start some time this weekend. Ginny disappears this Wednesday, and on Friday William will find out where she is. This weekend, the actual SL will start with people going off in search of Ginny.

If you would like to be a part of the search-and-rescue party, leave a comment to this post. :)

It's been suggested that we should maybe "reset" anything that had already happened in the previous version of d. What do you lot think of this?

I was just randomly wondering, for both Ginny's job and my own curiosity: is there anyone in this universe confirmed as dead-and-not-missing thus dead-and-buried-and-mourned? I know some players have mentioned the loss of friends, particularly some of the older Slytherins (as well as William and Charles), but I don't think anyone's been confirmed as dead beyond Dumbledore. Have any names been dropped in logs, etc etc? It could be a way to explain gaps in the 'cast', or even a way to explain the absence of (some, not all) characters who have lost their players (once the game officially starts again).

Just some random thoughts. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Ideas, opinions?

Since it seems that the consensus is towards not having London split into two parts, we'll go with the other options. Thanks to all those who weighed in, and here's another question:

Since the RP takes place "in real time", the question occured to me of how much the characters should/would be aware of/concerned with Current Events in the Muggle world. And, perhaps even more importantly, do the players want to have to deal with those events while RPing?

Hey everyone!

Since the idea of a website was brought up in the most recent post, I've volunteered so our mod doesn't have to juggle yet another responsibility for the RPG.

So! What I need from everyone is:
- a bio (can be expanded upon what you may already have in your info page, from your application, or reworked however you wish) -- if you'd rather have me just lift the info from your info page, let me know.
- where your character stands -- Death Eater? Revolutionary (Order of the Phoenix)? Ministry? Neutral?
- any logs you may have and feel like sharing for the website (posting on your own space works too, as always)
- contact info -- where you and/or your character can be reached

All of this can be sent to me at talia_nott@yahoo.co.uk , and I'll work it into the website. I'm planning to get the website at least up and working soon, so the sooner the info comes in the better.

Any questions/suggestions for things that should be incorporated into the website beyond rules (for applying and for the game itself), character pages (bios, who's on which side, contact list), logs, and history/backstory/game information (who's missing, common knowledge, DE info and Phoenix/Ministry info)?

Thank you so much! Hope to hear from everyone soon!

It has been suggested that rather than having London divided into DE and Ministry parts, the DEs would be much more of a sort of guerilla army, striking and then disappearing again, taking out high-ups in the Ministry, or even random people just to strike fear.

What do you all think of this?

Many thanks to those of you who came to chat yesterday; it's been very helpful. To fill in those of you who weren't there, I'll reiterate what was decided.

Re: The war, etc.:

  1. London is pretty much divided in two parts. One part is Death Eaters territory, the other is Ministry territory. This is not to say either party will not get onto the other's territory at all, just that Ministry people will most likely not go into DE territory if they can help it. OTOH, most DEs will not be as reluctant to go into Ministry treritory, for reasons detailes below.
  2. The Ministry is, basically, the biggest part of the contra-Voldemort movement. Unfortunately, due to its nature as a "government institution", they're held back by burocracy. The people "in the field" (Aurors, Unspeakables, etc) are fairly well-organised, and effective once they're actually allowed to go out, but they're hampered by the burocracy higher up in the Ministry.
  3. The Ministry also has regular patrols along the border with DE territory.
  4. The DEs are much more militarily organised, with several levels of hierarchy, and an order is an order. This, obviously, makes them more efficient than the Military, which is one of the main reasons they're winning right now.
  5. The DEs are also much more low-profile--obviously, it's no secret they're out in full force, but the identity of indicidual DEs is unknown. This means, of course, that while the DEs know exactly who the "enemy" is, the Ministry does not. (Obviously, this also means there are no DE patrols along the border.)
  6. The war is basically being fought on a one-to-one level--no big battles, just indviduals and small groups. This means that daily life in the Wizarding world is mostly allowed to go on much as it did before, and the Muggle world has no idea this is going on.

Re: the working of the RP:

  1. As said before, we wil be RPing mostly through LJ. Characters's own LJs will be used as "private" journals, FPK only.
  2. Because of this, and things like time zones and Real Life, it's pretty much impossible to keep up the game in actual Real Time. We'll slow down time for Story Lines, and maybe speed it up and/or skip days to keep more or less up to date with Real Time. Yes, I'm being vague. :p

I've also updated the members et al., and the community profile. Please feel free to go recruit more players, and of course, if you've any questions, leave a comment, or e-mail me, whatever. :)

Please get back to me before this Friday, so we can really get started? Ta.

And now, on to actual RPG business, would people be interested in having a chat this weekend to talk about story lines and things like that? Let me know.

Hello, all,

This is the new dolosus moderator speaking. Most of you will have already received an e-mail from me, except for bole, moneyedmalfoy, shelostit, and weasleyr, who don't have any sort of contact e-mail listed. (Could you four leave a comment or something, or contact me at almostdolosusgod@yahoo.co.uk? Ta.) I'm making this post as well as sending out the e-mail, mainly because I wanted to discuss a few things as to practicalities.

First of all, Dolosus is a StoryLine-based RPG, which means that mod come up with a general StoryLine, such as "Ron is kidnapped by aliens. He must be rescued, and the alien warship must be destroyed", those characters who would likely be involved in this SL, or would like to be involved in this SL, then RP out the SL, filling in a lot of the "meat" of the story, but following the SL that the mod set out. Obviously, anything happening outside the main SLs is fair game, but major plot developments (kidnapping, death, wahetever) can only be "canonified" by the mod.

If you have any SLs to suggest, please e-mail me. I take requests. Gladly, even. And preferably with some fava beans and a nice bribe. (I kid, I kid!)

Secondly, the really technical technicalities. Since the RPing will be done among a number of people, a lot of whom are in completely different time zones, IM isn't really an option for SL RPs. The way I see it, we have two options:

a) The moderator makes a post to

a) The moderator makes a post to <lj-comm="dolosus">, and participants to the SL RP the SL in successive comments. Pro: SLs are nicely centralised. Con: People not involved in the SL might lose sight of it when it's pushed down on their friends page, and once there are more than about 25 comments, the LJ comments page starts looking like hell.

b) All participants in a SL make seperate posts to <lj-comm="dolosus"> each time it's their turn. Pro: everyone can follow the new SL developments. Con: This will flood people's friends pages.

Opinions? Alternatives I've not thought of?

The other question I need opinions on is about the characters' personal LJs. I feel it's a bit strange to have wizards use computers, and would like to switch to using them as if they were "real" (paper, and private) diaries/journals, and a place to post logs, etc. of RPs not related to an actual SL. Any thoughts?

That will be all for now. Thanks for listening to my rambling.

We're having a little reshuffle, mod and storyteller-wise.

siccajay and usual will no longer be moderating and storytelling for this community, although siccajay will continue to play Percy. Ginny will be taken over by our new storyteller, Daimon (daibitchdai) until we find another successful applicant to play her. magicnumber will take over the moderation of the community as well as being co-storyteller.

Daimon can be found on AIM: i shot yoko or yahoo! messenger as wholebunchastones if you have any questions. He can also be reached via email at wholebunchastones @ yahoo dot com.

We are currently working on a new storyline for the community and hope to be able to fill everyone in on this soon.

Thank you for your patience.
